Hi, I’m Kathryn.
As a Remedial Massage Therapist, I’m experienced in treating musculoskeletal issues like frozen shoulders, postural misalignment, pelvic instability and injuries – as well as relieving acute pain so you can return to moving through life comfortably immediately after our session.
My approach is evidence based and intuitive. I use techniques that engage the parasympathetic nervous system, ensuring that healing occurs in a way that is calm and grounded.
In our sessions together, I might use techniques like:
- Positional Release
- Muscle Energy
- Thomas Hanna Somatics
- Emotional-Mental Somatics
- Slow fascial release
- Craniosacral Therapy (my favourite!)
As well as massage, I am currently at the end of my studies in Somatic Stress Release™. This is a type of somatic therapy where we work through trauma, stress, pain, life challenges and dysregulation of the nervous system by means of working through and engaging with the biological stress cycle. This allows the body to come to a place of resolution through the body’s primal language – movement.
During these sessions we may use balls, bolsters and cushions to actively release, or it may be more restorative with rest, including blankets and pillows. We’ll deepen into and make contact with sensations in the body through practices of movement, dance, gesture or voice. I am continuously surprised and in awe of the transformative results and feedback from clients who have engaged with these sessions.
“Why should it surprise us that we can tap into the body’s own inner wisdom to facilitate a positive response through the use of our hands?. .This is health as it was meant to be – a natural collaboration between two humans on a multitude of levels, all simply allowing the body to do what it was born to do best” – John E. Upledger
