I’m Debi – a birthkeeper and traditional postpartum doula in Melbourne. Like many other women, I was initiated into this work through birthing and raising my two fabulous children.
I wear many hats in this life! I’m a permaculturist, gardener, primary school teacher, mother (of course) and wife, dinner-maker and baker extraordinaire, avid reader, musician, ritualitst and lover of living in community. I bring these parts of myself to my work and I enjoy sharing them with all of my clients.
I offer myself as a birth doula and postpartum doula – you can request my attendance in either capacity separately, or we can work together throughout the term of your pregnancy, labour and post-partum. When you choose to work with me, we create a package of sessions and supports ranging from birth preparation advice and birth/home attendance to home-cooked meals, massages and baby care while you have a well-deserved nap!
I also offer one-off sessions for doula support and closing of the bones ceremonies (Cerrada), which is a traditional postpartum rite from Mexico (my original home).
I completed my birth doula training with Rhea Dempsey and studied with Rachelle Garcia Seliga at Innate Traditions to learn the craft of postpartum care. I follow the teachings of Naolí Vinaver and the lineage of Traditional Mexican midwives in my closing of the bones ceremonies .
I live in Thornbury and service the inner north suburbs, and I do travel further for births and home visits upon agreement.
